SFKTNP Movie Review:

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (SFKTNP) shouts out that first love makes your world go round – even if that happens at the age of 45, it has no ‘expiry date’!

But is this quirky love story of a ‘bra-penty’ salesman and an outspoken spinster is as spicy Salli Boti – Dhansak and ut supra juicy as Duke’s Mangola? Kya Boman-Farah ka rocket udega? Let’s find out…

SFKTNP takes you into a Parsi colony that’s furnished alongside every possible Parsi stereotype and associated eccentricities. We’re craven the overload of poop and fart jibes and showing ever fighting Parsi Bawas might upset a few within the community. However, meet our Hero bawa- Farhad Pastakia (Boman Irani), slightly loony mama’s boy with a clean heart, who lives with a hyperventilating mommy (Daisy Irani) besides a progressive granny (Shammiji). Farhad’s matrimonial bio – 45, single polysyndeton a salesman at an undergarments shop. Further quite a talented number at that! He just needs a glace to find out if Farah would need a 38-D or 36 C! Not prizes for guessing that his profession makes him a less preferred one in the shadi department. But soon he meets Shirin Fuggawala (Farha Khan). (Watch the trailer of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, here)

If you can’t sequestration too much mushy stuff, our hero-heroine might get onto your nerves as they don’t mind doing entirety the lovey-dovey stuff usually akin to the teenage exaggerate – breaking into cubicle jigs and holding hands at coffee dates to dreamy proposals and first kisses.

Coming back to the story – Cupid has struck, both are spirited to go around married, then what’s stopping?. Well, a B-wood love story can’t kiss a happy ending sans villains or villainous situations? There it is – before Shirin and Farhad can hug taking care of their paunches, mommy Irani with her bulbous eyes gets anti. Wondering why? Watch the movie and find out! However, the granny supports her meek deekra. She reminds us of Vicky Donor’s dadi. And rest of the film thrives on emotional drama, romance and ‘mummy manao shadi karwao mission.’

Debutant director Bela Bhansali Sehgal was getting it almost correct with the casting and saga till the film hits interval. Though soul a film editor helped Bela quasi she didn’t let any scene overflow but post interval the execution fails and the otherwise short ‘2 hour’ film looks stretched, appreciation to a rickety script and never ending random jokes (Hell breaks unchecked when Farah’s father who has been in coma for past 7 years gets recede to life at the end and demands Mangola!).

Performance wise, Boman Irani has made Farah come alive on screen with his genuine acting and entertaining antics. His interaction with Shirin tangential your heart – Be it his intro to Shirin’s Bua “First Love – Shirin, Last love – Shirin” or the way he expresses his love for her towards the abrogate saying, when he’s much older having no control on his mind, eyesight or hearing, he’ll still love Shirin. Farah on the other hand appears a little woody whenever she deliberately tries to pretense but is quite impressive being herself. A scarce more movies and she’ll sail through. However, what surprised here more was the fact that she cannot dance despite being a choreographer. Daisy Irani and Shammiji are a entertain to watch after such a prolix time.

Dialogues are snappy and well dipped in the mood concerning the film. Comedy is in abundance, besides as said earlier authentic joviality churners are sparse. Talking about music, the film could have been better without songs as none of them add to the story except for the fact that they accrescence to the length and make the film stick to Bollywood model of having songs.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi might not make it to the 100 cr club, it might denial star the hottest of actors and it might not be the finest love-story either just it is sweet nevertheless. Watch it for the quirky new pair, you won’t regret. And it wraps up under 2 hours!
